Our Approach

What makes the David-Kenneth group different is their singular focus on data center migrations. David-Kenneth's track record, dedicated project teams, proprietary tools and data center methodology mean you have a partner that is prepared to transform your data center on time and on budget.

There is no cookie-cutter solution for transforming your data center(s).  David-Kenneth offers three flexible working models:

  • Model #1: Outsourcing
  • Model #2: Blended Team
  • Model #3: Staff Augmentation

Model #1: Outsourcing

The David-Kenneth Group provides a turn-key data center migration solution.  This approach significantly reduces cost and mitigates risk.  Here's why:

  • Data center migrations are rare occurrences; most IT organization lack the skill sets required to successfully complete a migration.
  • Migrations require surges of activity that pull IT staff away from normal operations; most IT organizations aren’t staffed to accommodate the additional workload.
  • Migrations require specialized tools and a proven methodology that has been applied, tested, and refined.
  • Migrations, no matter how well planned, will have unexpected challenges that require specific prior experience to keep them on track.

A few considerations for choosing this model:

  • Outsourcing your data migration to David-Kenneth will save you money— no costly mistakes, no run-away projects, minimal overtime and no loss of continuity.
  • Outsourcing will compress your project schedule and insure on time completion with minimal disruptions to normal operations.
  • Outsourcing is fiscally justified given a migration's high return on investment (ROI) and the risk to the organization, if it fails.
  • Outsourcing through David-Kenneth, a dedicated data center migration firm, minimizes project politics and insulates management.

Model #2: Blended Team

The Blended Team is a mixture of David-Kenneth's data center migration specialists and your technical staff. The David-Kenneth Team provides the key positions such as the project manager, architect, and virtualization lead.

The benefits of the Blended Team Model are nearly identical to the Outsourcing Model, but the Blended Model requires educating client staff and more administrative overhead.  All of which may take longer and be more costly.

That said, the Blended Team Model is the most popular working arrangement with clients for these reasons:

  • While an organization may lack the specific skill sets to successfully complete a data center migration, they have the bandwidth to dedicate resources to the effort.
  • IT management feels strongly that their people need to shadow David-Kenneth during the engagement for training, quality assurance, and security purposes.
  • Internal policies and procedures are more easily adhered to when the team includes the client’s staff on the team.
  • This model breaks down barriers to change.  Internal team members are involved in validating that the proposed changes are well justified.

Model #3: Staff Augmentation

As the executive on the hook for the success of this mission-critical project, you are confident that you have the data center migration expertise and experience on staff.  However, you anticipate technical resource gaps as the project proceeds and require additional technical skills to fill-in the missing experience on your internal team. This is the least popular model with clients because of the risk they assume.

A few considerations for choosing this model:

  • An IT organization needs to be confident in their staff's expertise and experience in managing a data center migration project; the project manager, no matter how strong, needs to have prior experience.
  • The resource GAP analysis conducted by the organization identified only a few missing skill sets, and you’ve accounted for surges of activity at critical junctures in the migration.
  • The executive staff is comfortable with taking full responsibility for the data center migration project’s success or failure.
  • An analysis of the risks and rewards precludes the use of the Outsourcing or Blended Team Models.
  • You are tooled, trained and armed with a proven data center migration methodology.

The David-Kenneth Group exists to make your data center migration a success and offers flexible working models.
